William F Horgan Obituary

William F. Horgan passed away peacefully on March 29, 2015 at the age of 87.

Bill was born in Boston to the late Cornelius and Lillian Horgan. He was a graduate of Brighton High School and served in the United States Navy at the conclusion of World War II. Always proud of his Irish heritage, in his younger years he and his siblings, Mary, Ellen, John and Philomena entertained many a happy audience with their exuberant displays of Irish step dancing. He went on to pursue a long career with Brigham’s where he was employed for over 40 years rising to the position of Vice President of Production upon his retirement in 1990. He was a true connoisseur of ice cream and candy by that time.

It was at Brigham’s that he met the love of his life, Catherine M. “Kay” (Delahanty) Horgan who pre-deceased him in 2003. They married and raised their four children in Danvers and Quincy before moving to Braintree in 1966 where they became active members of the Parish of St. Clare.

Bill loved to sing and joined the church choir also performing in minstrel shows. He was a devoted family man to both his immediate and extended family. He enjoyed large gatherings and he and Kay served as frequent hosts to friends and relatives. Irish music always filled the Horgan home and Bill’s voice would ring out clearly above all the others. The beach held a special place in his heart as well. West Dennis in Cape Cod was a favorite place for many family vacations.

In his later years, he and his daughter Ellen moved to Walpole and joined the Blessed Sacrament Parish. He continued his many years of Volunteer work to the Pine Street Inn through that time.

Bill will be lovingly remembered and sorely missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his daughters Ellen, of Walpole, Patricia of Randolph, son Neal and his wife Catherine of Scituate and son Shawn and his wife Julie of Walpole. Cherishing always their “Grampy” are his grandchildren Kerin of South Boston, Patrick and Brian of Walpole, Kaitlyn of Quincy and Devon of Boston. He leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews as well.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 5-8pm at the McMaster Funeral Home 86 Franklin St. (Rt. 37) Braintree.
