Thomas J. Rountree, 76 of Braintree passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Sunday, May 22 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Devoted husband to the love of his life of 46 years, Marie C. (Mini) Rountree. Loving father to Matthew T. Rountree and his wife Elizabeth of Weymouth, Michael L. Rountree and his wife Danielle of Abington, and Alicia R. Rountree of Abington. Beloved son of the late Grover W. and Florence (Long) Rountree of Boston, and brother of the late Grover W. Rountree, Jr of Quincy. Cherished Papa to Benjamin, William, Thomas, Abigail, and the Late Madilyn Rose.
Tom was born in Norfolk, VA and graduated from Hyde Park High School. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served two tours in Vietnam. While serving, he received the National Defense and Vietnam Service Medal. After his service to his country, he attended Johnson & Wales University in Providence, RI. and worked as an automotive parts supplier for General Motors Corporation in Westwood for over 30 years.
Tom enjoyed traveling to Europe, cruising the Caribbean and going to Foxwoods casino. One of his fondest memories was spending time on Moose Pond in Bridgton ME, with the entire family in the summer. The love for his grandchildren was paramount in his life. They always brought a smile to his face and he cherished watching their soccer, baseball, and basketball games.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022 from 4-7PM at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will take place at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree on Wednesday, May 25th at 10:30AM. Interment to follow funeral Mass at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 1:15PM.
