Rita L. (Lydon) McCarthy, at the age of 104 and a half, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love on December 10, 2022. Affectionately known to all as “Nana Rita”.
Formerly of Braintree and South Boston, Rita was born and raised in Brighton, the beloved daughter of the late John and Margaret (Gallagher) Lydon.
Rita was an independent woman who was light years ahead in her thinking. She maintained her maiden name as her middle name, years before it was thought of. She was a humanitarian who cared about our planet, all of its inhabitants and social justice. She always rooted for the underdog and through her cheery disposition, contagious smile and humor made this a better place to live. Her family meant everything to her, she adored and loved them and they, her. She was the biggest Boston Red Sox fan, being born in 1918, which was the last time they had won the World Series. Upon the Red Sox win in 2004, she declared, “I can die a happy woman now”. She also enjoyed the New England Patriots and loved Tom Brady.
She was the loving Mother of John M. McCarthy and his Wife, Julie of Braintree. Adoring Grand-Mother of Courtney and her Husband, James Golden of Portsmouth, NH and Cameron A. McCarthy of Braintree, MA
She was recently blessed to become the Great Grand-Mother of Adelaide Una Golden.
She was blessed to become part of The Dwyer Home Family in Weymouth, MA, 5 years ago. She loved all of the other residents, the staff and all of the visitors. She was lovingly referred to as “Queen Rita”
Relatives and Friends are kindly invited to a celebration of her life at the McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree, MA on Wednesday, December 14th, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
As “Queen Rita” would say “Enjoy every moment of your life. In the span of time, even the longest life is too short”. Treasure every moment”.
