Toma, Richard A. 69, of Braintree, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023.
Richard was born in Quincy and lived in Braintree all of his life. Loving son of the late Joseph J. Toma and the late Irene (Wysocki) Toma MacDonald, and the late Arnold MacDonald. Dear brother of Deborah Toma of Braintree, Joseph Toma of Braintree, Danette MacArthur of N. Conway, NH, Mark Toma of N. Maple Grove of Minnesota, and Robert Toma of Braintree and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Dear friend of Wayne Monaghan of Hingham.
Richie went to Braintree Public Schools through grade 8. Then, he attended Blue Hills Regional High School where he learned the automotive skills that he would use for the rest of his life. Richie loved cars, trucks, and motorcycles, not just driving them but fixing them and building them. He would purchase automobiles that barely ran and took them apart piece by piece, repaired or replaced inoperable parts, had pieces repainted, and rebuilt the cars to look like new. He was very proud of his hard work and the end result of a shiny, new automobile.
Richie was very involved with the automobile transportation business. The snowbird cars that were moved north and south every year is where Richie's business, New England Auto Transport was started. After that he got involved in moving cars for other people until he went to work driving trucks for Mento's Landscaping Business of Braintree.
Richie had a lot of friends in Braintree that shared his love of cars or going out for the day at sea. He could be found at Dunkin' Donuts or the Olympian Diner for coffee or dinner with a friend in Braintree. Richie was often found at Ricciardi's Sub Shop with his good friend Danny Ricciardi. Richie will be missed by family and friends.
Funeral arrangements for Richie will be private.
A Celebration of Life gathering for Richie will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM at the Elks hall (old DAV hall) located on Liberty Street, Braintree.
