Peter R. Canelli, age 76, of Braintree, passed away peacefully on December 27, surrounded by his loved ones, after a 9-month battle with his health.
Peter was born April 19th, 1946, in Braintree and was a lifelong resident. He retired from the Braintree Water & Sewer Department after 42 years, and then worked as an inspector for Environmental Partners. Peter, known as “Grumpy” to his close family and friends, loved spending time with his family more than anything and relished in his role as a dad and grandfather. Peter also enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards with his close friends, hanging with his Dunkin crew, spending time at the cottage at Newfound Lake, and vacationing in Aruba with his wife, family and best friends Al and Pat Fava.
Peter will be deeply missed by all who loved him. He was the beloved husband to Donna M. (Anderson) Canelli. They shared 45 years of marriage. Peter is also survived by son Peter J. Canelli and his wife Julie Canelli, his son Nicholas Canelli, and grandchildren Hailey, Giavanna, Isabella, and Peter Jr.
Son of the late Joseph and Victoria Canelli. Brother of Rita Sbrizzi and her late husband Joseph of Connecticut; and the late Madeline and her husband Stanley Westover, Joseph Canelli, Louise Piggot and Mary and her husband Robert J. Prario, all of Braintree. Beloved Uncle of Deborah Piggott of Quincy, Cindy & Chris Kennedy of Plymouth, JoAnn Sbrizzi of Connecticut, James Sbrizzi of North Carolina, and Great Uncle to Vicky Kennedy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, friends that he considered his family and his grand doggies Sadie, Niko, and Frankie.
To our beloved husband, father, father-in-law and Grumpy you are forever in our hearts, gone but not forgotten. We hope we continue to make you proud every day.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 3-7pm on Monday, January 2, 2023, at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Braintree. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
