Mario DiScipio Obituary

Mario DiScipio passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025 at the age of 95, after living a long and beautiful life surrounded by love.

Born and raised in Crecchio, Italy, Mario lived a remarkable life defined by hard work, dedication, and joy. He proudly served in the Italian State Police for eight years before immigrating to the United States in 1956 at the age of 26. Determined to build a future in his new country, he studied to become a mechanic and rose to manager at Woodward Spring Shop in Quincy, MA. When the shop eventually closed, Mario embraced his second great passion—golf. He went on to work as a starter at Ponkapoag Golf Course, a role that brought him countless friendships and allowed him to enjoy the game he loved for many years, including winters spent in Florida.

A true sports enthusiast, Mario was also a loyal fan of the Italian National Soccer Team, as well as AC Roma, proudly cheering them on through victories and heartbreaks alike.

Above all, Mario’s greatest joy was his family. He shared 67 years of love and devotion with his wife, Rosita, and took immense pride in their life together. He was the beloved father of Annamaria Schroll and her husband Frank of Westerly, RI; Marisa Shaughnessy and her husband Tom of Hingham, MA; and Giovanna DiScipio of Braintree, MA. Nothing made him prouder than being “Nonno” to his seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him endless happiness.

Mario is also survived by his two brothers, Rocco DiScipio of Vasto, Italy, and Gabriele DiScipio of Francavilla al Mare, Italy, along with many nieces and nephews in Italy who held a special place in his heart.

Mario’s life was full, rich, and blessed—marked by hard work, passion, and an enduring love for his family. He will be remembered with joy, pride, and deep gratitude by all who knew him. His memory will live on through the stories, traditions, and love he shared, leaving an everlasting legacy for all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, September 29th from 4-6pm at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington Street, Tuesday, September 30th at 10:00am. Interment, Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

In lieu of flowers the family sincerely requests donations in Mario's memory be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity that was close to Mario's heart. www.stjude.org
