CODY – John J., Jr. “Jack”, age 74 of Braintree formerly of North Quincy and South Boston, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, surrounded by family.
Born in the old St. Margaret’s hospital to the late John J. Cody and Agnes L. (Dickson). He grew up in South Boston in the Old Harbor Village Housing project till the age of 13 before moving to Division St in North Quincy. Jack entered the United States Navy at the young age of 17 in 1966. He served during the Vietnam War as a Shipfitter Petty Officer 3rd Class until 1969, aboard the USS Krishna ARL 38 that was a repair vessel for the “Brown Water Navy”.
After his enlistment in the United States Navy, he returned home and became an avid boater in and around Boston harbor. He enjoyed the White mountains of NH often taking his MG to the top of Mount Washington and spending time on the slopes of all the ski resorts in the NH area. At the age of 24 he met the love of his life Maryann Harvey (Oberg) and married her and her 5 children, later having his son 2 years later. They raised their family in Braintree and were married for 49 years. He was an avid pitmaster, enjoying “Smoking Meats” for his family, especially during the football season. Jack took his welding and fabrication expertise to many companies, retiring from Clean Harbors after 25 years plus Jack truly lived his life on his terms and was always a provider.
Beloved husband of Maryann (Oberg) Cody of Braintree. Devoted father of Alan Harvey of Maine, Brian Harvey and his wife Carole of South Weymouth, Steven Harvey and his wife Kathy of Plympton, Michael Harvey of Maine, Marianne Harvey-Fenton and her husband John of Middleborough, and John Cody and his wife Erin of Middleborough. Dear brother of Carole O’Connell of Weymouth and the late Patricia Mawn. Cherished grandfather of Mallory, Timothy, Kimberly, Melanie, James, and Kiernan. Adored great-grandfather of Natalie and Evelyn.
Memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6th at the McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin St., BRAINTREE from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
