John “Jack” Young, 94, of Braintree, MA, passed away on December 30, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Jack was born in Jamaica Plain to John P. and Mary Ellen Young on April 1, 1927. After graduating from the High School of Commerce in Boston in 1944, he went on to serve in the Navy during World War II. After his military service, he graduated from Suffolk University where he played baseball. He worked as a teacher and Vice Principal in the Boston Public Schools for 38 years.
Anyone who knew Jack loved him. He loved visiting Saratoga during the summer with his friends and family. In addition, he loved reading poetry, videotaping family events, and playing and watching sports. Jack and Marie dedicated their lives to taking care of their son John. He was a dedicated member of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Braintree.
Jack is preceded in death by his sons, Thomas and John Young and his sister, June Young. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie, his daughter Ellen Collins and her husband Daniel, his daughter Mary Young and her husband Tom Meaney, and his son Richard Young and his wife Michele. He had 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the McMaster Funeral home, 86 Franklin Street (Rte. 37), Braintree, Tuesday, January 4, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 5, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Saint Clare, Braintree. Due to COVID-19 face coverings are required for those attending the visitation and funeral Mass.
