Joan M (Murphy) Roche Obituary
Joan M. (Murphy) Roche of Duxbury formerly of Braintree, Hingham, Yarmouth Port, Naples FL and Sydney NE passed away on February 18, 2016 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late William J. Murphy and Catherine (Larkin) of Weymouth, and sister of the late Maureen Thayer of Cohasset. For 65 years she was the loving wife of the late Jason B. Roche MD. She is survived by one daughter Susan Bailey and her husband Stephen of Norwell, three sons Jason B. Roche Jr. and his wife Mary Lou of Fort Mill SC, Michael Roche and his wife Cathy of Birmingham AL and Mark Roche and his wife Barbara of Berrien Springs MI. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Julie Roche Stokes, Amy, Jason and Jackie Roche, Jillian Roche Barr, and Bryan and Adam Bailey. In addition she is survived by six great grandchildren Brendon, Mary, Kathleen and Greyson Bailey, Gavin Stokes and Jason Kelly Roche. Born in Boston MA in 1926 Joan graduated from Braintree High School and the Mary Brooks School in Boston. Her early career was spent as a medical technician for Dr. Elliott P. Joslin who founded the Joslin Diabetes Clinic in Boston. She then devoted her life to her family and spent the remainder of her career as a homemaker. Joan served the community by volunteering at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She served for a term as president of the Norfolk South Women’s Medical Auxiliary. She and her husband were past members of the Quincy Neighborhood Club and the Hatherly Country Club in Scituate. Joan loved her family, traveling and golf as well as needlepoint, knitting, reading, interior decorating and painting. The family would like to thank the staff of the Village at Duxbury, Welch Home Care Services and Cranberry Hospice for their extraordinary and loving care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday February 23 at 10:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church 856 Washington St. South Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the McMaster Funeral Home 86 Franklin St. (Rt.37) Braintree prior to the mass from 9-10 AM. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family sincerely requests that donations in Mrs. Roche’s memory may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation MA-RI chapter 220 North Main St. Suite 104 Natick MA 01760.
