James F. Leahy passed away peacefully on August 28th, 2022 at the John Scott Nursing home after a long illness and months of declining health. He was 85.
Jim Leahy was born in Boston and his family settled in Neponset, NOT Dorchester. This was where he met his future wife Mary O’Halloran whom he wed in 1957. Mary passed away in 2018 after 61 years of loving marriage. They then moved to Braintree where they resided until their passing. Jim was a dedicated Patrolman then Detective with the Braintree Police Department for over 32 years. Previously, he spent several years working for the New York Central Railroad in various capacities, lastly as a Railroad Policeman. He spoke with fondness of his time with the Railroad quite often.
Jim was son of the late James W. and Mary C. (Gillis) Leahy as well as the sibling of George and his wife Frances of Rockland. He was also the brother of the late John Leahy of Holbrook and Marie Sargent of Beverly. Additionally, He was the father of Jim, Jr. and his wife Maryellen of Braintree, Kevin M. Leahy and his fiancé Sarah Hazell of Hanson and the late Kathleen Mary Leahy. His loving grandchildren were Michael, Meghan, Sean, Erin, Timothy and Caitlin. He was also blessed with many close friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 2nd from 5-8 pm at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., Braintree at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 3rd. Interment Braintree Cemetery.
