George A. O'Brien Jr.

George A. O’Brien, Jr. passed away peacefully on February 4, 2021, at the age of 94.

Devoted husband of the late Patricia (Murphy) O’Brien. Loving father of Maureen Morse and her husband Jeffrey of Hopkinton, Mark O’Brien and his wife Aileen of Braintree, Diane O’Brien and her husband Andrew MacInnis of Duxbury, Janet O’Brien of Weymouth, Mary Frances O’Brien and her husband Alexander Starkman of Braintree, Karen Hisenberg and her husband Greg of Weymouth. Devoted Papa of Jack, Peter, and Katherine Morse, Samuel and Lucia Hisenberg, Megan and Ryan Starkman, Ian and Colin MacInnis, and Victoria O’Brien. He was preceded in death by his loving sisters Isabel Griffin and Jean O’Brien.

George was a proud native of Dorchester. He and Patt moved to Braintree where he lived for over 50 years. George was a 1951 graduate of Boston College. He loved BC football and hosted hundreds of students over the years at his famous tailgates.

His favorite place was wherever his family was. He had a special fondness for Cape Cod, and could be found many summer afternoons at the beach.

George worked for 33 years for the Massachusetts Port Authority, retiring as Secretary Treasurer. George was very proud of his service in the Navy during WWII.

In accordance with COVID-19 regulations, which require face coverings, social distancing, and limited capacity, relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37) Braintree, Sunday, February 7th from 2:00-4:00PM. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 8th at 10:00AM in the Church of St. Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree. Interment private. 

In lieu of flowers George requested donations be made to the USO of New England, 427 Commercial Street, Boston MA 02109.
