Edith E. (Ferrin) Plummer Obituary

Edith Plummer, age 90, died comfortably in her home with family on June 7th, 2024. She was born in Chichester, NH to Marjory and Hermon Ferrin. Her mother passed away 2 months after she was born. At age 3 she and her 6-year-old sister moved to Keene, NH and were raised by her Grandmother and Aunts.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roland, Sister Barbara, Cousin Harriet, daughter-in-law Laura, and aunts. Edie is survived by her children Ed Plummer and his wife Mary, David Plummer, Tom Plummer, Jim Plummer, Jean Harding, Cindy Kay and her husband John, 14 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.

Edie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who consistently expressed concern for others and often put others needs before her own. She made people laugh with her quick wit and silly ways, even when times were tough. She shared and showed her love with an open and accepting heart.

Edie has always loved children and started babysitting when she was young. Edie went to nursing school before marrying her best friend Joan’s brother, when she was 19. As a young bride she lived in and worked in Boston, before buying a home in Braintree.  Edie was an attentive, nurturing mother, raising her six children in this home.

Edie started babysitting as a favor to a neighbor and word of mouth lead to Edie caring for many other children in Braintree for the next ten years. She also cared for many of her grandchildren while their parents were working. Once her youngest child started high school, Edie worked in retail and loved putting her talent to work making crafts for a Home Goods display and enjoyed being able to take her creations home after they no longer needed to be displayed. Friends and family were often the fortunate recipients of her knitting, crocheting, sewing, and craft hobbies.

Edie and Roland brought their children to Newfound Lake in Bristol, NH every year for more than 50 years. This was Edie’s “happy place” where she helped create many fond memories for her children, grandchildren and even her great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a time of visitation from 10-11am on FRIDAY, June 14th at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30am at the Church of Saint Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree. Inurnment to take place at a later date at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
