Earl O. “Nick” Nichols, 95, a lifelong and proud resident of Braintree, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025.

 

Nick was the beloved husband of the late Margaret Nichols and devoted father of Susan Connolly, Jim Nichols and his wife Cathy, and the late Linda Nichols. He was the cherished grandfather of Molly Croal and her husband Tim, and Holly Nichols Sosa and her husband Pablo. Nick was a loyal friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

A proud Air Force veteran, Nick went on to work for many years as a machinist at Boston Gear Works. He was known for his sharp wit, love of airplanes, and fondness for a good vodka gimlet (to prevent scurvy, of course). Nick loved traveling—especially trips to Las Vegas with his great friend Frank Henderson—listening to jazz music, playing video poker, and cheering on his favorite Boston sports teams.

 

He also enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—ice cream sundaes, scratch tickets, and a good laugh watching Seinfeld. In his later years, Nick could often be found enjoying coffee and conversation with friends at Dunkin’ Donuts in Braintree, or sitting contentedly in the sunshine in his backyard.

 

Nick’s warmth, humor, and love for life will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.

 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, October 18 from 10-11am at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11am in the Funeral Home. Interment private.
