Donald Frederick Brownell age 90 of Spring Hill, FL. formerly of Braintree  passed away suddenly on May 23, 2015 at Oak Hill Hospital.

He is survived by his beloved wife Phyllis A.(LeVangie) Brownell, formerly of Braintree, MA. He  was the dear father of  six children: Rhonda Brownell of Niceville, FL; Charles Brownell of Navarre, FL; Leon Brownell of Rockland, MA; Leslie Minassian of Hingham, MA; Donna Brownell of Weymouth, MA; and the late Donald F. Brownell. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Charles Merkel of Palm Coast, FL; Leigh Merkel of Orlando, FL; Lena Brownell of Rockland, MA; Maxwell Brownell of Rockland, MA; Sean Willis of Rockland, MA; Brad Willis of Boston, MA; and great grandson, Edward Merkel of  Palm Coast, FL.

Donald was born in New Haven, CT on February 28, 1925, the only son to Benjamin and Evelyn Brownell of Braintree, MA. He graduated from Braintree High School in 1943 where he met Phyllis. Following graduation, Donald enlisted in the United States Navy. Donald and Phyllis married on July 4, 1948, so they would always have the holiday off to celebrate their marriage. They celebrated 66 years of marriage together.

Donald was a Chief Petty Officer, World War II veteran. He earned several medals and commendations including: Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.  He served on board the USS Grackle, USS Isherwood, USS Cascade, USS Lake Champlain, Navcruitsta, USS Randolph, and USS Wasp. He retired from the US Navy in 1974 after 21 years of honorable service.

Donald graduated from Bentley College of Accounting and Finance in 1950 where he earned a degree in accounting. In 1970 Donald served as the Building Executive Director of the YMCA in Quincy, MA. He retired from the YMCA in 1986 after 16 years of service.

Donald and Phyllis raised their family in Holbrook, MA, where they built many happy and lasting memories. In 1986, they moved to Spring Hill, FL. Donald and Phyllis enjoyed the sunshine, golfing and 29 happy years of retirement together.

 A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday June 2 at 10 A.M in the McMaster Funeral Home 86 Franklin St. (Rt. 37) Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the Funeral Home Monday  from 4-7 PM. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery
