Barbara “Joan” Lane (Billings), 88 of Braintree passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Boston, MA. and raised in Portland, ME. She was the daughter of the late Florence and Charles Billings. She was a professional dancer who traveled with the Ken McKenzie show. In addition, she worked as a Real Estate Broker for her sister’s company Charter Realty. As a long-standing parishioner of St. Clare’s Church in Braintree, she was extremely devoted to her faith and family. She enjoyed vacationing at her cottage on Sebago Lake, weekends at the Cliff House, and spending time with her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Chuck Edgerly.
Joan was the beloved wife of the late William F. Lane for 57 years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her five children: Catherine A. Berry and her husband Robert of Pembroke, Patricia A. Hale and her husband Richard of Braintree, Mary F. Howland and her husband David of Braintree, William C. Lane and his wife Josie of Braintree, and Joanie M. Verna and her husband Michael of Pembroke. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Mark Berry and his wife Julie, Katie Berry and Michael, Dee Berry and Paul, Lisa Generous and her husband Tony, Jeannine Gray and her husband Joel, Jamie Campbell and her husband Patrick, Richie Hale and his wife Kristen, Sarah Beach and her husband Eamon, Dave Howland and Erin, Catie Howland, Gianna Verna, Nick Verna, Nathan Lane and 21 great grandchildren with two more on the way. God-daughter Linda Johnson and her husband Paul, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy of Braintree.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday May 6th, 2022, from 5-8PM at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin Street (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of Saint Clare, 1244 Liberty Street, Braintree on Saturday May 7th, 2022, at 11:30AM. Interment Braintree Cemetery.
