John M Burke

John M. Burke of Weymouth, formerly of Braintree passed away on Friday, May 31 at the age of 59 following a relatively brief but devastating battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded at the Colonial Nursing Home in Weymouth by his loving family, where he received compassionate care. His family also wishes to thank Hospice of the South Shore for their generous support.

John displayed a very strong work ethic throughout his life. He was employed by Stop & Shop through the years and was always available to family, friends and neighbors when help was needed with projects around the home.

He was the son of the late Albert and Anne (Gartland) Burke and part of a large family raised and educated in Braintree. He was the brother of Alan of Weymouth, Stephen of Braintree, Christine King of Bridgewater, Mary Ellen of Tampa, FL, Kathleen Ritchie of Chatham, Robert of Taunton, Laurel Smith of Groveland, Albert Jr. of Carver, Michael of Plymouth, and the late Sheila Rebelo.

A private service will be held for the family at McMaster Funeral Home in Braintree and interment will follow at the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Johns memory to the National Cancer Society.
