Drusilla “Dru” (Young) Haran, 71, a beloved wife, mother, and sister, cherished Mimi, devoted friend, and respected educator passed away October 10, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Dru grew up in Reading, MA and was a graduate of UMass Amherst. For close to 30 years, Dru was an elementary school and Title I teacher in Braintree including the Lakeside, Penniman, Monatiquot, and Morrison schools.
Dru is survived by her husband John of 43 years, her sons J.T. and his wife Liese of Corning, NY, Ted and his wife Ann of Annandale, Va, and Michael and his wife Carrie of Mt. Lebanon, PA; her grandchildren Connor, Colin, Griffin, Patrick, Thomas, Eileen, Matilda, Brennan, and Aidan; her sister Jane Young and husband Sumin Tchen of Concord, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Dru was the daughter of the late Walter and Frances (Ryan) Young.
In retirement, Dru traveled extensively with John to Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Europe – her favorite location being Sydney. Dru also enjoyed bridge and most of all doting on her grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday October 16th at St. Thomas More Church 7 Hawthorn Rd. Braintree at 10AM . Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the McMaster Funeral Home 86 Franklin St. (Rt. 37) Braintree on Monday October 15th from 5-8PM. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made in Dru’s memory to the Newman Catholic Center at UMass Amherst, 472 North Pleasant Street Amherst, MA 01002.
