Domenic Bongiovanni Obituary

Domenic “Dom” Bongiovanni, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 10, 2018. Dom was married to his beloved wife the late Helen (Ternullo) Bongiovanni for 61 years.

Dom was born in East Boston, son of Domenic & Catarina Bongiovanni, and his late sister Catherine M. O’Brien. Dom later moved to Quincy at an early age with his family where he graduated from Quincy High School.

Although Dom did not have children of his own, he adored his nephews Paul and Ken O’Brien and their wives Fran and Mary. Dom was a great-uncle to; Patty, Jeffrey, Jacqueline, Kate and Alison O’Brien. He was great-great-uncle to Finnegan and Charlie O’Brien, and Antonio Domenic Dias.

After High School Dom joined the army to do his part for our country during WWII. Dom was placed into the 101st Airborne Glider Division, where he fought on the European front. He participated in many battles including "D-Day" on June 6, 1944 and later " The Battle of the Bulge".

Dom was proud of his Veteran status, always displaying the 101st emblem "The Screaming Eagle".  He earned many medals, including the Purple Heart. 

After the war Dom attended Vesper George School of Art and later had a successful career as a commercial artist and illustrator. He earned several awards for his airbrushed art work. One piece, an Astronaut on a Space Walk, won awards and was on display in several museums.

When young, Dom enjoyed traveling and dancing with his wife Helen. Dom was described as an intelligent, strong, humble and heroic man who loved his family and the Boston Red Sox.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Mass in the Church of St. Clare 1244 Liberty St. Braintree Monday Dec. 17. 2018 at 10:30AM.  Interment with military honors will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery Braintree. Visiting hours in the McMaster Funeral Home 86 Franklin St. (RT 37) Braintree Sunday Dec. 16 from 2 to 5PM.
