Barbara A (Hickey) Lyons

Barbara A. (Hickey) Lyons 84, Long time resident of Braintree passed away suddenly October 6, 2017.  Wife of the late Paul M. Lyons Jr.  Beloved mother of Mark D. Lyons and Paula A. Lyons-LaFavre and her husband Douglas LaFavre all of Braintree. Proud Nana of Victoria A. (LaFavre) Mallett and husband Christopher Mallett and Great GrandNana of Cooper Mallett all of Danville, NH.  She is predeceased by her parents; James and Josephine (Connors) Hickey, and siblings; Henry E. Hickey, John B. Hickey, and Helen M. (Hickey) Sullivan.  She leaves behind brother-in-law David J. Lyons of Milton, many dear nieces and nephews, as well as many children and grandchildren of the heart.  Born in Milton and a graduate of Milton High, class of 1950.  A graduate of Hickox Secretarial School of Boston.  She retired after 33 years of service to the town of Braintree as Secretary to the Board of Selectman. She was a Town Meeting Member for many years as well as an avid volunteer at the Monatiquot School while her granddaughter attended.  She was a former member of the International Secretaries Assoc. and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a faithful parishioner of St Francis of Assisi Church for 59 years.  She loved the beach, was a big fan of NASCAR, a supporter of the arts, and an avid reader and ice cream eater.  Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours Tuesday October 10th 4-7pm at the McMaster Funeral home, 86 Franklin St. (Rt. 37) Braintree.  A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday October 11th at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 850 Washington St. Braintree at 10:30AM.  Internment to follow at Milton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers,the family sincerely requests donations can be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association 260 Cochituate Rd. #200 Framingham MA 01701.
