Morris, John J. “Red” of Hingham, formerly of South Boston and Braintree, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 14, 2023 at the age of 91.
Beloved husband of 70 years to the late Barbara L. “Rainey” Morris. Loving father of Kevin Morris and his wife Linda, John S. Morris, and Steven Morris and his wife Lisa. Devoted grandfather of Patrick and Daniel Morris.
Born and raised in the Old Harbor housing development in South Boston. Graduate of South Boston High School and captain of the 1950 hockey team. Served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean War. Thirty-year law enforcement career as a Sergeant in the Metropolitan District Commission Police Department. Also worked for the Boston Gas Company, Intercontinental Energy Group, and as a hockey coach at Archbishop Williams High School. But his unparalleled success was as husband, father, and grandfather. He was a devoted and loving family man above all else. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren; watching Boston sports; attending every single hockey game every family member played in; reading the Boston Globe each morning and clipping articles related to his family’s lives; acquiring vintage items from the Hingham Transfer Station; and collecting antique cars which he proudly displayed in the Hingham July 4th parade. His life was the American Dream and he will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from 9:30-11am on Wednesday, December 20, at McMaster Funeral Home, 86 Franklin St. (Rt. 37), Braintree. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30am at Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 856 Washington St., Braintree. Interment Braintree Cemetery.
