John B Martino

November 1, 1922 ~ March 12, 2017 (age 94) 94 Years Old


John B. Martino, 94, husband of the late Josephine “Pena” (Zanghi) Martino, passed away on March     12, 2017.  Of the Greatest Generation, he was truly one of its best. John was born in Bridgewater, MA on November 1, 1922. He was the son of the late Vincenzo Martino and Guiseppa Lucchetti Martino. He was preceded in death by his four siblings, Rose Ferrone of Brockton, Anthony Martino of Spokane, Washington, Charles Martino of Bridgewater and Mary Proia of Providence, Rhode Island. He is survived by two sons, Vincent R. Martino and his wife Nancy of Braintree and Anthony J. Martino and his wife Sherryl of Plymouth; his two grandchildren, Christine Martino of Hanover and Jennifer LaRosa and her husband David of Whitman; and his three wonderful great grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Jenkins of Hanover and Max LaRosa of Whitman. John graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1940. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II, specifically as a member of the China Burma India (CBI) Campaign. After the war he returned home, married the love of his life, and became a resident of Braintree in 1946. He resided in Braintree for over seventy years.  John worked at the former General Dynamics in Quincy for more than thirty years, and could also be found tossing pizzas at the Villa Rosa Restaurant in Milton. John was a former Officer and Lifetime Member of the Braintree Sons of Italy Lodge in Braintree. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and was thrilled to experience the joy of seeing the Red Sox break the curse and win the World Series in 2004. He was an extremely devoted family man and enjoyed his time with his family. John’s family wants to thank the entire staff at Alliance Healthcare in Braintree for their extraordinary love, care and friendship during the past few years. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday March 17 at 10:30 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church 856 Washington St. Braintree. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the McMaster Funeral Home 86 Franklin St. (RT37) Braintree Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery
